Route: From Combe Martin to Fowey (Shorter Daily Distances)

The daily mileages of this itinerary are less than standard giving you a great chance to explore the villages you come across, stop and take photographs or just spend time sitting on beaches or cliffs. About 10% of our walkers choose this pace, and they are normally either new to walking holidays, or like to take their time.

Ilfracombe to Woolacombe
Distance: 8.5 miles Difficulty: Moderate

Woolacombe to Croyde
Distance: 6 miles Difficulty: Moderate
Day 5:
Croyde to Braunton
Distance: 9 miles Difficulty: Easy
Day 6:
Braunton to Barnstaple
Distance: 5 miles Difficulty: Easy
- Day 7:
Barnstaple to Appledore
Distance: 8 miles Difficulty: Easy

This does not include the walk into Bideford. Instead, this makes use of the ferry operating between Instow and Appledore. The ferry operates 2 hours either side of high tide. If the ferry is not operating, then there is a regular bus service from Instow to Appledore.

Appledore to Westward Ho!

Westward Ho! to Clovelly
Distance: 11.5 miles Difficulty: Easy/Strenuous

IMPORTANT - Clovelly is a private village, so there are some access restrictions around luggage delivery. Please ask prior to booking for further information.

Clovelly to Hartland Quay
Distance: 10 miles Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous

Hartland Quay to Morwenstow
Distance: 8.5 miles Difficulty: Strenuous

Short ferry ride from Rock to Padstow.

The distance above is based on crossing The Gannel at Fern Pit Cafe, either using the bridge (low tide) or the ferry (high tide / operates May to mid September). There are 2 alternative bridges to take a little further upstream. Penpol Bridge +1 mile or Trenance Bridge +2.5 miles.

Perranporth to Portreath

Day 21:
Portreath to Hayle
Distance: 12 miles Difficulty: Moderate/Easy
Day 22:
Hayle to St Ives
Distance: 6 miles Difficulty: Easy
- Day 23:
St Ives to Zennor
Distance: 6.5 miles Difficulty: Strenuous

Day 24:
Zennor to Pendeen
Distance: 8.5 miles Difficulty: Strenuous
Day 25:
Pendeen to Sennen

Sennen to Porthcurno
Distance: 6.5 miles Difficulty: Moderate/Easy

Porthcurno to Penzance

Penzance to Praa Sands
Distance: 9.5 miles Difficulty: Easy/Moderate

Day 29:
Praa Sands to Mullion
Distance: 12 miles Difficulty: Moderate
Day 30:
Mullion to The Lizard
Distance: 8 miles Difficulty: Moderate
Day 31:
The Lizard to Coverack
Distance: 10.5 miles Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous
- Day 32:
Coverack to Helford Passage
Distance: 13 miles Difficulty: Moderate

There are 2 river crossings to consider today. Gillan Creek can be waded 3 hour either side of low tide and there is a small ferry operating 3 hours either side of high tide April til October. The Helford can be crossed throughout the day using the ferry. During Spring tides, there are occasions were the Helford ferry is unable to operate for 1-3 hours if the tide is extremely low.

Helford Passage to Falmouth

- Day 34:
Falmouth to Portscatho

Two ferry crossings are required on this stretch.

- Day 35:
Portscatho to Portloe
Distance: 7.5 miles Difficulty: Strenuous

- Day 36:
Portloe to Gorran Haven
Distance: 9 miles Difficulty: Strenuous/Easy

Gorran Haven to Charlestown
Distance: 10.5 miles Difficulty: Strenuous

Charlestown to Fowey
