Start your holiday by dining at one of the many pubs or restaurants in the historic bustling fishing port of Brixham before waking fresh the next day to begin your journey.
Passing pretty coves at Elberry, Broadsands and Goodrington, then along the promenades of The English Riviera at Paignton and Torquay, taking time to spot the plaques erected in homage to Agatha Christie, the areas greatest novelist, the walk will take you onward over red sandstone cliffs, leading to your destination at Babbacombe.
On leaving the serene surroundings of Babbacombe after maybe stopping to ride the Cliffside railway, you will discover Babbacombe Downs with beautiful views out to Lyme Bay and ahead to Teignmouth and Dawlish.
The sun on your face, the wind in your hair, the squawking of gulls, the sounds of the waves breaking against the cliff or beach and spectacular views all add to the enjoyment of a coastal walk along this lovely section of the South Devon coast.

Recommended dates to walk this route
This walk can be done all year round but the weather in the winter months may make the walk a little more difficult.
There are some ferry journeys required and the companies operate on a seasonal basis, generally Easter to September/October.
This is our most popular itinerary on the Brixham to Exmouth section of the wonderful South West Coast Path. With an average daily walk of 8.5 miles (13.7km)this is perfect for those new to walking holidays or those just wishing to take time to experience the many highlights on this journey.
Spectacular views along the roller coaster cliffs, unspoilt coves and peaceful woodland all add to the enjoyment on what is possibly one of the great undiscovered stretches of England's coastline, where the previous sandstone cliffs give way to the dramatic red rocks of the South Devon Coastline. There are some easier sections along lush wooded countryside but also plenty of the usual climbs up to cliff top heights before descending to hidden un-spoilt coves. With constant panoramic sea views, this is a glorious journey along the coast of South Devon.
